New Mini Coupe is the fastest sprinter ever

This big-bhp brute force is, however, assisted by some slicing aero-tweaks to the now familiar Mini bodywork, with the Coupe benefiting from a wrap-around glasshouse area and curvy “helmet design” roof. The A-pillars and windscreen are sharply raked by 13 degrees compared to the Mini Hatch, resulting in a smaller frontal area that bestows better aerodynamic properties upon the Coupe. The 29mm lower Coupe roofline also helps to undercut the speed-sapping air current.  Still, it’s not all about the speed demons; Coupe fun can be had at many Mini levels and with some pretty decent equipment standard across the engine-related trims, including DAB digital radio, air conditioning, park distance control, alloy wheels, 3-spoke sport leather steering wheel and sport stripes on the body work. A wide range of accessories and personalisation choices will also be available. Up front you’ll find the latest generation of BMW Group 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder petrol and 2-litre diesel engines with power outputs ranging from 120bhp in the Mini Cooper Coupe (£16,640 OTR) to the aforementioned 208bhp in the flagship JCW (£23,795). Fleshing out the middle of the Coupe range is a “performance diesel engine” with 141bhp in the Cooper SD (£20,510) and a 181bhp Cooper S (£19,775). Every 2-seater Coupe however, regardless of trim, will reward “keen drivers with a level of handling agility unmatched in the small car segment”, so says Mini. You’ll recognise the Coupe’s tried and tested interior touches like the central circular speedo, chrome toggle switches and curving door card design details; all delivering the required retro flavour. And while she sounds flamboyant with only room enough for two, there’s still some pretty serious 280-litre suitcase space; 20 litres more than the Clubman. Less practical but way more gadgety-fun is the active rear spoiler housed in the bootlid. It pops up automatically when the Coupe reaches 50mph – and drops down again at 37mph – but can be (regularly!) operated manually via a button in the overhead control panel. The active rear spoiler reduces lift at the rear axle to improve aerodynamic balance and road grip, as well as adding a little reality to any red-light James Bond daydreams.

Engine and Performance

The all three trim levels of the 2012 Mini Coupe engine is powered by a 1.6 liter 4-cylinder petrol engine and mated with six-speed manual transmission.

The base 2012 Mini Coupe model is powered by a 1.6 liter 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 121 HP at 6,000 rpm and 118 lb-ft of torque at 4,250 rpm and mated with six-speed manual transmissiom, which can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 8.3 seconds and reach the top speed at 127 mph with fuel consumption of 5.4 liter/100km.

Next model is the 2012 Mini Cooper S Coupe is powered by a 1.6 liter 4-cylinder petrol engine with combination of direct injection, variavle vale management and turbocharging that produces more power than the base 2012 Mini Coupe with 181 HP at 5,500 rpm and 177 lb-ft of torque at 1,600 rpm and mated with six-speed manual transmissiom, which can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds and reach the top speed at 142 mph with fuel consumption 5.8 liter/100km.

And the most powerful model is the 2012 Mini John Cooper Works Coupe . It’s powered by a 1.6 liter 4-cylinder petrol engine with direct injection and a twin-scroll turbocharger that produces more power than the base 2012 Mini Coupe with 208 HP and 192 lb-ft of torque at 6000 rpm and mated with six-speed manual transmissiom, which can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds and reach the top speed at 149 mph with fuel consumption of 7.1 liter/100km.
