Read more That evening, I hosted my Toasting with Margarita at Le Booze of the Royal Sonesta with many of my friends and the following day it was time to host my very informative and fun monthly Round Table Luncheon at the newly renovated Fleur de Lis Room - former site of Begue’s at the Royal Sonesta Hotel. It was very well attended and my featured guests included New Orleans City Councilwoman Kristin Gisleson Palmer ; Katelyn Castleberry , Executive Director for Friends of New Orleans Public Library; and Scott Cunningham , Board President for Friends of New Orleans Public Library and Frank Stansbury , Editor and Publisher of LaFete News and director of the upcoming That evening I attended a very nice fundraiser for the friends of the Library at Vintage 309. The following day, it was time to attend my brother Lorenzo Bergen ’s Art Exhibit at the JW Marriot. Those evening of culture that included the art exhibit, fabulous music by guitarist Javier Gutierrez , with complimentary wine tasting and hors d'oeuvres are always a lot of fun.

New Seminar at Tales of the Cocktail Highlights ... - Hotel Monteleone

New Orleans, LA (July 23rd, 2011) – Presented by Sazerac Rye Whiskey and led by cocktail historians Philip Green and Chris McMillian, “ Hotel Monteleone – 125 Years of History,” is a new seminar at Tales of the Cocktail that will take cocktail lovers on a narrative journey back in time to hear about the 19th and 20th century hospitality traditions of New Orleans and of the Hotel Monteleone. The seminar will take place on Saturday, July 23 from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. in the Queen Anne Ballroom.

The session begins with the story of a hard-working cobbler from Sicily purchasing what would become an empire in the Crescent City in 1886 – the Hotel Monteleone. Green and McMillian will touch on the many literati and entertainment icons who have made the Hotel their home away from home and go-to entertainment destination over the years.

The seminar will also delve into the cocktail history of the Hotel Monteleone. Patrons will sample and learn the origins of the Vieux Carré cocktail invented by one of the Hotel Monteleone’s bartenders and the recently resurrected Goody cocktail made in honor of a beloved Hotel manager. Finally, they will hear about neighboring watering holes, the La Louisiane and the Sazerac House, and how their respective drinks formed a cocktail triumvirate with the classic Vieux Carré.
