Emily Kurey of Alpharetta, Ga., a 16-year-old rising junior at Centennial High School, and Collins Bradshaw of Columbia, S.C., who will play golf for the University of Georgia next year, tied for medalist honors and both earned automatic spots into the 2011 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship by turning in even-par 72 scores at White Columns Country Club in Milton, Ga.
Joining Kurey and Bradshaw are five other players who earned automatic qualifying spots into the field: Lou Daniela Uy of Antipolo City, Philippines (1-over-par 73), Rachel Dai of Suwanee, Ga., (1-over-par 73), who just won the Georgia Girls’ Championship last week at Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta, Ga., Chelsey Couch of Ware Shoals, S.C., (2-over-par 74), Katy Harris of St. Simons Island, Ga., (2-over-par 74) and Annie Swords of Newnan, Ga., (2-over-par 74).
The first and second alternate positions needed a playoff to determine who would fill the two spots. On the first playoff hole, Kayley Marschke of Suwanee, Ga., chipped in for birdie to clinch the first alternate spot, and Bailey Tardy of Norcross, Ga., finished as the second alternate.
White Columns Country Club was set to 6,288 yards and a par of 72. A field of 53 players competed in the qualifying round.
The 63rd annual U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship will be held at Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, Ill., July 18-23, 2011. Entries were open to female amateur golfers who will not have reached their 18th birthday on or before July 23, and who have a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 18.4. The U.S. Girls’ Junior is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
