Doctors' Goodwill Foundation Expo Set For Aug. 13

The Expo will showcase medical and pharmaceutical products and other health related services – and host education classes for doctors and medical staff.

Screenings will include blood pressure, bone density, PSA, cholesterol, blood sugar, as well as education and demonstrations on subjects such as stress management, diabetes, smoking, healthy living, nutrition, fitness, cancer, home health, heart health, hospice, women’s and men’s health, community services and many others.

“Attendees will hear about the latest trends in clinical research, drugs and devices, as well as medical, ancillary and financial services,” said said Dr. Kantilal Bhalani, DGF Founder.

Continuing Medical Education (state mandated CME’s), as well as CEU’s and CE’s will be offered free of charge.  Membership to the Doctors’ Goodwill Foundation is open and free to all physicians and allied health professionals.

“A special presentation by Brenda Radke, CEO of Brevard Physicians Network, will detail the upcoming changes in healthcare with ACO’s (Accountable Care Organizations),” said Sue Tindall.

Of special interest to primary care physicians, ACO’s  will have soon have a major impact on  physicians.

“The Doctor’s Goodwill Foundation invites all area physicians, nurses, pharmacists and others who need credits to register for the Doctors’ Expo free CME/CEU/CE,” said Tindall.

To register, call 321-735-6492 or log on to www.DoctorsFoundation.org

FOUNDED ON COMPASSION

The Doctors’ Goodwill Foundation is a charitable organization established in 2003 and consists of more than 150 area physicians and health care professionals whose goal is to promote health related education, research and participate in local and international charitable medical missions.

“These dedicated doctors and medical technicians made frequent donations of their services to medical missions across the globe,”  said Dr. Bhalani, who was recognized as a 2010 Space Coast Humanitarian last November.

“The DGF recognized the need to provide compassionate medical assistance for those with dire needs worldwide,” he said.

The DGF held its first annual Doctor’s Expo in May of 2004.  That event provided a springboard for networking, continuing education, and a showcase for opportunities in learning state of the art emerging technologies.

Pharmacy Technician Continuing Education

Technician continuing education. Although only a minority of states requires pharmacy technician continuing education, this is being added in increasing number to other states. The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is the only in-charge in certifying pharmacy technicians. This group of professionals needs to be re certified every two years by completing 20 hours of continuing education. Pharmacy technicians have many options in order to complete their pharmacy technician continuing education.

Different formats that include online options, print options, in person options, and recorded options are attributed to continuing education programs by the National Pharmacy Technician Association (NPTA). Moreover, the Accreditation Council on Pharmacy Education (ACPE) has accredited these pharmacy technician continuing education programs. With all the pharmacy technician continuing education options available, you have to choose one and then either read or watch the lesson material, and then you take the course test in the website. A 70% score is needed in order to get credit for the course.

Pharmacy Technician Continuing Education Exams

If you have successfully passed the exam, you can print your certificate to show that you have completed the pharmacy technician continuing education course. However, if you did not reach the passing score the first time, you can review the materials and then get another test without paying for additional cost. Another one that provided pharmacy tech CE courses is the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). You can choose to learn by taking an online course, read printed matter, or podcasts. This also requires that after taking the courses and after finishing the material, you need to take a test and obtain a passing score to gain your continuing education credits. Pharmacy boards are not particular on how you obtain your continuing education. What is important to them is that you have completed the required number of hours and you have the certificate to show that you did. Do not forget to obtain that one hour of law in continuing education for pharmacy that would be credited towards the requirement of the law.
