Vision Airlines to Drop Service to Five Cities from Mid-July

Low-cost carrier Vision Airlines is dropping service to five cities from July 17, but says it plans to add new destinations in its winter schedule.

On July 17, Vision Airlines is dropping service to Huntsville, Savannah, Columbia, Greenville/Spartanburg and Baton Rouge. The carrier says it made the decision to discontinue service to the five cities because demand in the markets has not met the company’s expectations.

Vision Airlines says it will give any passenger affected by the route cuts the option of a full refund or the opportunity to travel from a nearby city that it serves.

To make up for the cuts in its fledgling low-cost, scheduled-service network (which Vision Airlines launched in December and expanded substantially in March and April), the carrier says it plans to add additional cities in its winter schedule. Vision Airlines will look to add destinations which can support its scheduled-service and charter-flight networks to Florida, Las Vegas and the Caribbean.

The airline says that with the beginning of its winter schedule on November 14 it will also increase frequency to many of its destinations

“We had high hopes for all of the cities we serve; however, the demand in a few of these cities has not met our expectations,” says David Meers, Vision Airlines’ chief operating officer. “We will discontinue the routes effective July 17, 2011. There are a variety of factors that went into our decision, but with high fuel prices, it is not prudent to continue to fly in markets that may take a very long time to develop.

Adds Meers: “We still offer a robust schedule of flights, and these few reductions will not significantly impact our revenue or passenger traffic. Our low fares, great service and non-stop flights have allowed us to establish our place in the market and we plan to continue to build on this success. We are currently evaluating the addition of a number of new cities that have solid passenger flow to Florida, Las Vegas and the Caribbean.”

The carrier published its fall schedule on June 25, the schedule being valid for flights from September 11 through November 13, 2011. Vision Airlines says it will release its winter schedule by August 1.

Vision Airlines’ scheduled-service network focuses mainly on serving Florida sunspot destinations and las Vegas and it operates a mini-hub at Northwest Florida Regional Airport, which serves the resorts of Destin and Fort Walton Beach.
