Marilyn Elizabeth Jordan

Sun Lakes resident Marilyn Elizabeth Jordan died peacefully on June 7, 2011, surrounded by family at Hospice of the Valley’s Dobson House after a two-year battle with temporal arteritis. She was 77.

She will be remembered by her family as a loving wife, a caring mother and an affectionate grandmother who filled her grandchildren’s days when they came to visit.

Marilyn was born April 16th, 1934, the only child of Lynn and Mary Neal in Paducah, Ky. She attended school in Paducah and graduated from Augusta Tilghman High School in 1952.

She went on to attend Murray State University, graduating in 1956 with a Bachelor’s of Music Education degree with a major in piano. She belonged to the Tri Sigma sorority. While at Murray State, she met her husband, Paul Jordan.

Paul and Marilyn wed in 1955 and were married for 55 years.

Marilyn taught school for 3 years in Petersburg, Virginia and Assumption, Ill., but quit after the birth of her first daughter. She used her teaching skills to instead train pianists, teaching hundreds of pupils how to play over three decades.

Love of music was a theme throughout Marilyn’s life. She directed choirs, played the violin and organ, formed and conducted bell choirs in churches and studied music again in her adult years. She was a prolific pianist until her final months, performing professionally but usually sharing her talent for family and friends and with church or volunteer groups. She loved classical music and jazz best but enjoyed most music genres.

The Jordans in 1962 moved from central Illinois to the suburbs of Chicago, settling in Arlington Heights, Ill.

In 1991, Paul retired from School District 214 in the Chicago suburbs and Marilyn retired from teaching piano professionally. They moved across the country to Sun Lakes, where Marilyn embraced her new surroundings, taking up golf, and continuing to perform.

She was an active PEO member and a member of the Sun Lakes First United Methodist Church. She loved gardening, flowers, decorating her home, and playing cards.

Throughout her life she enjoyed collecting antiques. She liked traveling and visiting her daughters’ families in California and Alaska. She especially enjoyed entertaining friends from Illinois who also made the trek to Arizona, and new friends she met and grew to love in her adopted state.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her beloved oldest daughter, Lisa.

The two had long wanted to pair their sales and marketing and management backgrounds and moved to Colorado Springs, CO where they partnered in a Jan-Pro franchised business. Jan-Pro was ranked the #1 fastest growing franchise and the two developed and grew their market to just over $4,000,000 in annual gross revenue in five years! They were recipients of Jan Pro International’s two top awards, Master Franchise Owner of the Year and Office of the Year. Becky and John also achieved Jan-Pro’s Gold Circle status, reserved exclusively for the top performing offices. After selling their highly successful business in 2007 they were retained by Jan Pro International on a consulting basis to assist other markets throughout the country.

Having a love for Arizona and a love for helping others achieve their goals and dreams they began the process of selling their Colorado home. Becky and John love the outdoors and enjoy golfing, hiking, swimming and making new friends. They eventually purchased their new home in the Oakwood area of Sun Lakes in an active adult golfing community and soon after began their real estate career. Both are also avid readers and enjoy traveling, cooking and drinking good wine. They are members and actively involved in Chandler Christian Church. Together they have 4 sons living in WA, CO and NY and 11 beautiful grandchildren.

Becky and John are a dynamic team known for their leadership, integrity and a heart for helping others who live and specialize in Sun Lakes, AZ and represent buyers in the surround East Valley area as well.
