The diva is not much to write travel - why should she disclose the location of its boutique hotels and pristine beaches? But on a recent weekend getaway to a Gotham witheringly hot, she met with untimely death, the remarkable artistic talent, a celebrity elusive and multiple straps. It would be a crime not to share.
The odyssey began when yours truly was invited to attend the wedding of New York Rita, a neuroscientist at Staten Island, and Jason, a professor of literature at Harvard from West Virginia, a match made in nerd "The Big Bang Theory "sky.
While there, I would attend "Savage Beauty," the Metropolitan Museum of Art's smash hit of an exhibition featuring the works of the late Alexander McQueen.
His fashions, influenced by everything from the paintings of Flemish masters to "Harry Potter" films, dominated the red carpet on the backs of an alphabet of A-listers (Jennifer Aniston, Sandra Bullock, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz), helped cement Lady Gaga's otherworldy style and clothed an army of famous Kates -- Katie Holmes, Cate Blanchett and Kate Middleton on her wedding day.
Since opening on May 4 the show drew over half a million people, prompting the Metropolitan to extend his run twice. And next week, the museum will make the historic decision to restore hipsters and night owls.
On Saturday, August 6 and Sunday, August 7, the last two days of the exhibition, visitors can ogle McQueen jaw-dropping creations until midnight. This is a reasonable time for the Gothic genius whose thesis collection at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in 1992, was entitled "Jack Ripper stalks his victims."
