Hammerfall: Infected
Vannak lemezek, amelyek megváltoztatják az ember... ha nem is életét, de zenei fejlődését, és stíluspreferenciáját egész biztosan. Mikor 14 évesen a kezembe került a Hammerfall ’Glory To The Brave’ című albuma, nálam beütött a ménkő. A The Dragon Lies Bleeding kezdését hallva egész egyszerűen minden korábban hallott rock, vagy pop zene gagyivá vált, én pedig azonnal elkezdtem falni a csapat munkásságát. Igazi rajongóvá váltam, a polcomon figyelnek a banda albumai, rengeteg dedikálással, közös fotóval büszkélkedhetem a tagokkal, és értelemszerűen élőben is rengetegszer elcsíptem már őket különböző turnékon, különböző országokban.
Épp ezért az, hogy a formáció a szívemben különleges helyet foglal el, mindig is igaz marad. Ugyanakkor rajongóként is be kell ismernem, hogy a csapat munkásságának minősége sajnos nem egyenletesen magas. Véleményem szerint az első négy lemez elvitathatatlan mestermű, melyeket bármikor örömmel hallgatok újra. Ezekhez képest a ’Chapter V’ már egy fáradtabb, ötlettelenebb Hammerfall t mutatott, de hiába, egy laza fejcsóválással az egyszeri hibázást még el lehetett nézni. A ’Threshold’ azonban újfent nem tudott felnőni a korai lemezek zsenialitásához, bár tény, hogy az olyan dalok, mint a Natural High megszerettették velem még azt az anyagot is. Ellenben innentől megbomlott az egység, jöttek a tagcserék, és a 2009-es ’No Sacrifice, No Victory’ már messze nem azt a tüzes, vad, fiatal bandát mutatta, akiket a himnikus refrénekért, és a sebes vágtákért megszerettem. Egy fájdalmasan ötlettelen, sablonos, középszerű anyag készült el, s élőben hiába ütöttek nagyot mind a Pecsában, mind a tavalyi Metalfesten, az ’Infected’et már félve vártam.

You'll literally walk into a club — not so much in England, but there still are some in England, more so in mainland Europe — you'll walk in, and there will be a bunch of people fucking headbanging to fucking Hammerfall, and it's really weird.

Yes, they’re cheesy; yes, they’re hokey; yes, their video has an armour-clad warrior with glowing red eyes wielding a magic hammer and riding a giant eagle that looks like it came straight off the Colbert Report coming to the defence of damsels-in-distress and fighting a castle full of vampires. And yet, somehow, Hammerfall still manage to be awesome with numbers like ‘ Natural High ’. Hammerfall was another one of those power-metal bands I uncovered on the FTGG blog , and they still pretty much epitomise the power-metal genre... for better and for worse.
