Dear College Women's Ultimate Leaders,
We are very pleased to announce an exciting new undertaking for the 2009-2010 college women's ultimate season! With the help and support of the Washington University Women’s Ultimate program, we will be hosting two tournaments in St. Louis, MO this season. We invite you to read all of the details here: http://midwestultimate.texasultimate.org/ - Midwest Warmup (Nov 7-8, 2009)- Up to 24 women’s teams Bid window open now! Bids accepted on a rolling basis. Email throwdown.td (at) gmail dot com Bid Fee: $325 - Midwest Throwdown (March 6-7, 2010)- Up to 12 Division I women’s teams, 12 Division II women’s teams, and 8 Roundup Division women’s teams Bid window open early fall At Midwest Throwdown, there will be a special Roundup Division (8 teams) that is part-tournament, part-skills clinic. We have invited some of the top women's club players from around North America to guest coach teams for the weekend. These teams will be young and/or developing programs in the area who would benefit greatly from a weekend of intense teaching and mentoring. Teams will play 4-6 games over the course of the weekend, but will also have scheduled bye rounds where their guest coaches will be able to go over drills and skills with them, review strategy, and generally give them tools that they can take back with them to practice. We anticipate a high level of demand for this division of Throwdown, so if you play for a young team that could benefit from some high-level coaching, stay tuned for details about the application process. There will also be “regular” Division I and Division II competition. In order to be able to secure the best coaches possible for the Midwest Throwdown Roundup Division, we are running a fundraiser tournament this fall, Midwest Warmup, where 100% of the profits will go toward this project. In addition, it will be fantastic opportunity to introduce your rookies to ultimate at a well-run tournament at an awesome field site with great amenities. It is our hope that this project is something that will be replicated across the country, and we invite you to join us for the ride. Please feel free to contact us with questions and/or comments at throwdown.td (at) gmail dot com Sincerely, Michelle Ng (Berkeley Ultimate '04-'06, Texas Ultimate '07-'08, Texas Showdown) Anna Nazarov (UCLA Ultimate '03-'07, Bay Area Zeitgeist) Holly Greunke (Wisconsin Ultimate '02-'07) http://midwestultimate.texasultimate.org/

Below is the message I received from Abby earlier today. If Indiana cannot find pick-ups, they are going to drop and WUWU would like for that to not happen. As an incentive to play, they are offering a free tourney fee and free housing to those who pick-up with Indiana. There will also be all sorts of freebies...free food at the fields, etc.
I highly recommend playing if you can. Picking up with other teams is always a great way to learn about Ultimate. If you're interested, I need to know tonight so that WUWU can contact Indiana and begin printing programs, etc. Please post ASAP! Thanks! "Indiana is in a pinch for players this weekend at Midwest Throwdown, so we're trying to help them out by finding pickup players who could play with them. Would any of you be interested in playing with them, or do you know of girls who would be interested? I know Missouri State was considering coming to Throwdown until the Frostbite date was announced - could you see if any of them might potentially want to combine/pick-up with Indiana? Players must be a current UPA member or must be willing to pay the one-time event fee. They do NOT need to be college eligible. We will have tons of freebies, including pizza at the fields Saturday night. The tournament will be held at the Blue Heron Polo Fields, outside of St. Louis. Please let me know asap if you know of anyone who would be interested in playing. You can also check out our tournament website at: http://throwdown09.texasultimate.org for more details. Thanks for all your help with Throwdown already!" Abby Stephens Wash U Women's Ultimate Co-Captain, '09

WUWU is putting on a women's college tournament March 7-8 in St. Louis. So far Wash U, Truman, Kansas, Wisconsin, and hopefully SLU and Carleton are coming.
http://throwdown09.texasultimate.org/ The Washington University Women's Ultimate (WUWU) program is proud to host the second annual Women's Midwest Throwdown in St. Louis, MO. Throwdown was founded by the University of Texas Women's Ultimate program last season as a way to provide women's teams in the South and Midwest with more opportunities to play against quality competition and to promote the growth of college women's ultimate. With the support of Texas, we are looking forward to hosting Throwdown this year and continuing to build women's ultimate in this part of the country. Depending upon interest, we may divide the tournament into a Division I and a Division II. We will be accepting bids on a rolling basis by historical program strength and/or recent Regional and National finishes. The bid window will close January 15, 2009. We have interest from a number of top teams including recent National Qualifiers from the South, Great Lakes, and Central Regions. We welcome bids from all college women's teams, especially teams in the South and Midwest.

To all of the ladies who went to sectionals last weekend......AMAZING! I know this message is a bit delayed, but I just wanted to let everyone know how much fun I had last weekend! I seriously doubted our decision to play with 6 all week long, but I had a wonderful time once we started playing on Saturday! Thank you all for playing so intensely! We put up a fight in every game and that is something to be proud of! Great playing everyone!
Julie - As always, it's a pleasure playing Ultimate with you! You always have a great attitude in the game and ALWAYS do something to inspire me! Jill - We've been playing together for some time now and every game is a blast...you're such a sweetie...I couldn't imagine Ultimate w/o you! And...great job handling the disc and being the ONE with me....you were fantabulous! Jeana - Way to be a bad gluteus maximus! As usual, you had all sorts of glorius catches! A special thanks to you for holding my hand while crossing the fierce river! I couldn't have done it without you. =) Laura - Thanks for being so upbeat all weekend....attitude goes a long way! You played that middle great all weekend on both offense and defense....always in the right place at the right time....AWESOME! Amanda - Way to play tough even when you really should have rested your knee! You played through the weekend for your team and that is a WONDERFUL deed! And of course, all the while, you had a couple of scores and all sorts of d's! Thanks for playing with us...you had best be playing again next year! Emily - Our savior from playing 6 on 7 Ultimate! Nice work in our zone defense and as usual, great cuts....keep using your speed to your advantage and destroy everyone who attempts to guard you! Again, thanks for a GREAT weekend and a WONDERFUL season!
